Sanctus Support DIY SOS: The Big Build
27th June 2017
In April 2016, while on a family holiday in Cyprus, dad-of-two Ben slipped walking along the side of the pool. Tragically he landed on his head in the shallow-end breaking his neck in three places leaving him paralysed. In that split-second, the young family’s world was changed forever. After months of treatment in both Cyprus and Germany he was finally flown back to the UK, where the Salisbury Spinal Unit made amazing progress with him. Ben has spent the last year living alone and miles away from his family and home as it has been unsuitable for Ben’s need for continual care – until now.
DIY SOS: The Big Build stepped in to help with the transformation of the family home for Ben & his family in Avening, Gloucestershire.
Sanctus was provided with a refurbishment survey by the BBC showing the home contained a large amount of asbestos containing materials. To eliminate the risk of exposure to asbestos by the Big Build team, Sanctus assisted the project by undertaking extensive removal of all identified asbestos containing materials. The site team took 4 days to complete the required removal work, on programme, allowing other trades and contractors to get in and commence construction in a safe environment.
The Big Reveal on the 22nd June was the first time that Ben had been home in 14 months. Now home, he can start the real rehabilitation work – and get back to being a husband to wife Ella – and dad to his daughters Iris (3) & Olivia (8).
Sanctus would like to thank all those that provided services and support on this very special project.
