Sanctus recently provided asbestos survey and removal services to the BBC One series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’, to help a deserving family from Charlton Kings, Cheltenham to transform their home. This is the second time Sanctus have assisted the BBC on such projects in the local area.

The Chapman family is an inspiring and loving family but through no fault of their own, are now living in difficult circumstances. Peter and Sarah Chapman’s problems centre on Sarah and their daughter Suzanne who both suffer from Myotonic Dystrophy – a long-term genetic disorder that affects muscle function. It sadly recently claimed the life of the couple’s other daughter, Margaret.

Peter is now caring for the family, 24/7, but he also has Fibromyalgia, a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body. Peter started building an extension, to adapt the house to everyone’s needs but time and money has now run out, and the family’s future was in genuine jeopardy, Peter was struggling to finish work on the house and find the hours in the day to care for all his family. They all desperately needed their home finished and that’s where the generous DIY SOS volunteers stepped in to help.

The works have now been completed and the refurbishment has been a total success, despite the recent adverse weather conditions. We wish the Chapman family every happiness for the future.
